What is Plastic Thermoforming?
CBM Plastics helps you choose the best production process for your parts needs. Thermoforming is the perfect solution for large-scale designs or shorter production runs. The plastic thermoforming process consists of:
- A sheet of plastic is heated to a forming temperature.
- The heated plastic is stretched onto a single-surface mold.
- It is then drawn against the mold by a vacuum to create a three-dimensional shape.
- After the shape is formed, the part is trimmed and finished to meet the customer’s needs.

Benefits to You for Working With CBM Plastics
CBM Plastics maintains a high standard of excellence in all we do. Advantages to you of our plastic thermoforming process include:
-
Lower Initial Costs
In thermoforming, mold designs are less complex and perfectly suited to smaller production runs.
-
Cost-Effective for Larger Size Components
Because bigger parts require larger molds, thermoforming is more cost-effective for large-scale components.
-
Faster to Production
Since thermoforming is less time-consuming to set up and less complex, lead times are generally faster. This gets your prototype or final product into production in a more timely fashion.
-
Versatility
Thermoforming allows a great deal of flexibility in product design.
